Why humanscape.org?

Unarguably, our country’s population is divided into the resource sufficient and the resource deficient. Roughly, 87 per cent of the people live in rural areas and urban slums combined. Of the remaining 13 per cent, we could assume that ten per cent (at the maximum) are socially active and interested in contributing to bringing about some positive change around them. Further, a small number of people who fall in this section have access to the Internet and use it as an active medium to network and connect with other people. This number could be about one per cent of the total population.

humanscape.org would like to initiate a dialogue of the one per cent

a. within themselves (i.e. within this group of resource sufficient/Internet active)
b. with the 87 per cent – not directly, but through second hand experiences

What do we hope to achieve?

humanscape.org is working towards building a sense of reciprocity – a give and take – between the resource sufficient and the resource deficient. Those who actively use the Internet as a medium will learn/become aware of the situation, alternatives and options for being able to contribute to those who need it. The key to the success of humanscape.org is interactivity.

The promoters: Foundation for Humanisation

Foundation for Humanisation was set up in 1992 by volunteers of the world-wide humanist movement with the following objectives:

  • To promote a new current of thoughts and actions with the human being as the central value and concern
  • To orient positive changes in the human being in personal and social fields
  • To influence various fields for bringing positive changes and for carrying out actions on the basis of physical, economic, racial and religious non-violence, on the basis of ideas of no discrimination, freedom and justice and for overcoming physical pain and mental suffering which hinders human evolution
  • To fulfil these objectives it has networked with 12,000 grassroots organisations and 15,000 individuals through various initiatives across India and in other countries. It has compiled several databases of libraries, educational institutions, journalists and electronic lists.
