Letter from the Publisher
by Jayesh Shah
Friends,
In November 1993, Humanscape commenced publication as a project of the ‘Foundation for Humanisation’ to fulfil the following objectives:
To promote a current of thought and action with the human being as the central value and concern.
To orient positive changes in the human being in personal and social fields.
To influence people from various disciplines to bring about positive changes around them and to carry out actions based on physical, economic, racil and religious non-violence, built on the ideas of non-discrimination, freedom and justice, with a view to overcoming physical pain and mental suffering.
During the last 12 years, Humanscape has witnessed the fulfillment of its objectives covering all spheres of human endeavour and among individuals and organizations. It has positively influenced thousands of people in various parts of India. Scores of people working in different fields have shared their experiences and ‘how to…’ with others. Humanscape has been instrumental in networking with its readers, and also among people working in the same or in an associated field.
Over a period of time, Humanscape has been one of its kind.
Its journey over the last 12 years has not been without its ups and downs. Humanscape has faced all sorts of difficulties in generating editorial ideas, in its production and in its financial situation. However, on every occasion, it has overcome these hurdles, maturing into a fine journal.
Right from the beginning, the Foundation kept production costs low and almost self-financed through the support of its readers and well-wishers. It never raised any big financial aid. Its philosophy has been to get published to serve society and also to be financially supported by society.
There were many who believed that Humanscape would close down after publishing first three issues. However, overwhelming peoples’ participation helped it to continue publishing for 12 years.
At this juncture, Humanscape has been facing difficulties of self-sustenance both from within and without. It has had to take the difficult self-decision to end its journey.
It requests its subscribers to accept this situation with a sense of its objective fulfilled over a period of twelve years and to accept its notional end. It may appear again in future if the need arises. The Foundation thanks all for their support in its growth.
The Foundation has requested its loyal subscribers to consider the balance amount of subscription as a voluntary contribution. Alternatively, subscribers may seek the balance amount of their subscriptions by way of back issues of Humanscape, other books published by the Foundation or cash refunds. The Foundation requests its readers to write a letter explicitly stating their wishes in this regard.
